Awe Walk with Aspetuck Land Trust - CT

As Rebecca Solnit notes, walks are a way to extend the self into the environment. An awe walk helps us tap into the power of presence and of the universal. The focus on self diminishes, and the vast outer domain is allowed to enter. We notice both large and small remarkable things, dive into curiosity and wonder, and shift our perspective. The research on awe shows increases in well-being, an increase in establishing beneficial neural pathways, support to the immune and cardiovascular system, and a sense we are part of a broader cultural system.

Meet at St. Mary’s by the Sea, Ash Creek in Black Rock, Bridgeport

"4,000 Weeks" Book Club

Join a collaborative, supportive group to read and discuss the thought-provoking, funny, and engaging book “Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals,” by Oliver Burkeman.

Burkeman examines how today's productivity hacks may allow us to "get more done, race to more meetings, ferry your kids to more after school activities, generate more profit for your employer - and yet, paradoxically, you only feel busier, more anxious, and emptier as a result." He leads us to examine our connection to time, step back and determine what's most important, and lead a life with the realization that we'll never get it all under control.

"This book is wonderful. Instead of offering new tips on how to cram more into your day, it questions why we feel the need to..." Marianne Power (The Times, London)

The Stress Prescription Book Club

Stress is woven into our lives, and we need it. "In the right dosage and frequency, it helps keep our cells young and vital. But, these days most of us have a stress problem, we're turned on to stress all the time. Stress is the ocean we swim in, and we're flooded with constant triggers: demands and deadlines, logistics, and unexpected crises large and small. We can't eliminate it, but we can change our response to stress."

Epel's research is user-friendly and sensible. You'll find tools to integrate into your life right away. The pocket-sized book is approachable - an easy read.

JOIN US for meaningful discussion, collaborative activities, and a collegial conversation. This is a virtual book club meeting on Mondays: 4/24, 5/1, 5/8 @7:30pm ET on Zoom.

Sign up by April 5th by emailing: jen@jengrovescoaching.com

Fee:
$59 if you purchase the book on your own.
